Bottle of 1937 Glenfiddich Whiskey Sold For $71,700

Called the oldest scotch whisky in the world, a bottle of 1937 Glenfiddich Whiskey was sold in June 2012 for US $71,700, at the Christie’s International’s Wines and Spirits Sale, held in London. While this extremely rare bottle of Glenfiddick Whisky was valued at US $77,900 (excluding fees), it only managed to collect US $71,700 (including fees).

Glenfiddich is a 120 year old whiskey brand, and one of the few brands to have managed to remain completely owned by family, since production started. Over the years, this scotch whiskey manufacturer has impressed the world with its unique blends and limited edition whiskey bottles, such as the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Scotch Whiskey, which has sold for record prices.

The bottle of 1937 Glenfiddich Whiskey which was sold at the Christie’s International’s Wines and Spirits Sale, has been described as a ‘unique malt whisky of exceptional character’. This 75-year old single malt whiskey is one of the oldest scotch whiskies in the world, and would make a great collector’s item.

Distilled in 1937, the Glenfiddich bottle of scotch whisky was discovered to be a whisky that matured in an unusually slow manner. It was finally bottled in 2001, and only 61 bottles were released, making this whisky the rarest Glenfiddich whiskey that was ever manufactured. Dubbed as the ‘world’s oldest whiskey’, the price of this rare bottle of whiskey is expected to increase each time it is resold.
